Frequently Asked Questions About the Open Studios Art Tour

Technical FAQ

Other Questions

Must I have a professional photographer shoot my work?

The screening process for Open Studios involves projecting all 10 images you submit. Please remember that the quality of your slides is all that represents your work.

Slides have been the standard for competitive exhibitions, gallery solicitations, and documentation of artwork.

While it is possible with the right equipment and know-how to photograph one's own work, many artists consider the expense for professional photography of their work to be a necessary cost of doing business.

What is the Cultural Council’s policy on infractions to the Participation Agreement that each Open Studios artist signs?

Each Open Studios artist signs an agreement committing to specific participation requirements. These requirements represent standards to ensure that the Open Studios Art Tour is a unique experience which showcases a significant body of original art by professional artists in their workspaces. Artists are also expected to share their art-making processes with the public.

In fairness to artists who comply with the requirements and because of the strong reputation and increasing success of the event, strict enforcement of the requirements is warranted. Participating artists who do not adhere to this Participation Agreement compromise the integrity of the event and are subject to consequences that range from informal feedback to rejection from future Open Studios Art Tours.

If you have questions not answered in the Guidelines, Technical FAQ or above, please contact Event Manager Ann Ostermann 475-9600 ext. 17.
