Free Tax Help Is A Coalition Of Organizations That Provide Free Tax Help Throughout The Bay Area Led By United Way Bay Area In Partnership With The IRS. Our Services Are Free, Secure, And High-Quality. Tax Returns Are Prepared By Trained And IRS-Certified Volunteers.

We ensure taxpayers maximize their refunds by claiming cash-back tax credits like the Federal and California Earned Income Tax Credit, and the Federal and California Child Tax Credit. California residents who made less than $30,000 in 2023 may be eligible for up to $8,000 in state and federal tax credits, depending on income and family size.

The IRS created the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) free tax prep program to provide free tax preparation for low-income and at-risk taxpayers with the help of community partners and volunteers. This year, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County volunteers help individuals and families prepare their taxes.

We want to help people keep more of what they earn.

The main requirements for becoming a TAX EZ volunteer are time, a willingness to learn and share knowledge with taxpayers and comfort working with computers. Volunteers receive tax training from IRS-trained instructors and can serve in a variety of roles. Many volunteers begin with no prior tax experience. Training and annual certifications are free.
